Professional & Personal Background
Shelly’s specialty as a Family Nurse Practitioner is in primary care/family practice. She is passionate about diabetes management. Shelly had the opportunity to work with Indigenous peoples, Native Americans and Alaska Natives, for over 14 years. As a Nurse Practitioner, she has worked for many health care facilities in Wisconsin. While living and working in rural Alaska, she gained strong skills in emergency medicine and urgent care. Shelly previously worked as a grant writer and assisted with the implementation of a special diabetes program for Native Americans.
Shelly has a passion for Native American studies. She and her husband, an Oneida tribal member, have six children and 11 grandchildren. Her hobbies include fishing, camping, gathering wild foods, gardening, and living a subsistence lifestyle. She also enjoys reading, sewing grass baskets, and cooking.
